Official data released today, Monday, shows that Turkey's unemployment rate increased by 0.1 percentage points month-on-month to 10.2% in April, while the seasonally adjusted underutilization rate of the workforce rose by 1.7 points to 23.8%. The Turkish Statistical Institute stated that the survey covered the entire country in April after excluding some earthquake-hit regions in the past two months. The underutilization rate of the workforce had decreased after reaching a peak of 29.6% in January 2021 due to the economic consequences of COVID-19 containment measures, but it has begun to rise again in recent months. The institute's data indicated that the labor force participation rate in April increased to 53.9% from 53% in the previous month.
