Minor Earthquake Hits Taiwan with No Reports of Damage

Taiwan's meteorological agency reported today, Saturday, that a 5.3 magnitude earthquake occurred off the eastern coast of the country, causing buildings in the capital, Taipei, to shake briefly, but no damage has been reported. The agency noted that the epicenter of the earthquake was in the sea off Hualien County at a depth of 7.2 kilometers. Taiwan is highly susceptible to earthquakes.
