Temporary Suspension of Cologne's Player Transfer Ban

Temporary Suspension of Cologne's Player Transfer Ban

Cologne, a competitor in the German Bundesliga, announced yesterday, Friday, that the Court of Arbitration for Sport has temporarily suspended the penalty imposed by FIFA, which banned the club from signing players for one year while it reviews the appeal filed by the club.

Cologne stated that the Court of Arbitration for Sport has lifted the ban concerning a player. The German club noted that Potočnik decided to terminate his contract with Olimpija Ljubljana after "multiple violations by the club," and that he did not urge the player to leave his previous team.

FIFA had banned Cologne from signing players for the upcoming season after accusing the club of urging Slovenian player Jaka Potočnik (17 years old) to terminate his contract with Olimpija Ljubljana to join the German team in January 2022.

FIFA also fined Cologne €51,750 ($57,000) and suspended the player for four months.
