Muhammad Habib, spokesperson for the defunct Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Northern Unit, has called on "the wise" in Suwayda to help resolve the ongoing crisis, in a statement to Al Arabiya. He emphasized SDF leader Mazloum Abdi's belief in the unification of Syrian military forces.
Habib highlighted that recent changes in the country necessitated the integration of the SDF into Syrian state institutions. Syrian President Ahmad al-Shar’a has taken concrete steps to reassure Kurdish communities and preserve their rights, he said.
According to Habib, several SDF leaders were appointed to top positions within the Syrian Ministry of Defense, confirming that all commanders are committed to following orders.
He stressed the need for concerted efforts in Northern and Eastern Syria and urged the wise in Suwayda to work towards resolving the crisis.
President Al-Shar’a welcomed Mazloum Abdi and his delegation at the People’s Palace in Damascus, attending the meeting with Foreign Minister As’ad al-Shibani and Deir ez-Zor Governor Ziyad al-Ayesh, as reported by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The discussions focused on integrating the SDF into state institutions and took up proceedings for the upcoming phase to strengthen state presence and bolster security and stability.
Previously, on Tuesday, SDF leader Mazloum Abdi announced the dissolution of the SDF, the autonomous Kurdish administration, and all related military and civilian formations, confirming their full merger into Syrian state institutions.
Abdi delivered this announcement in Arabic and then in Kurdish before journalists at the Presidential Palace in Damascus, stating, "Today, we announce the conclusion of the mission of the Syrian Democratic Forces and declare, with responsibility, its dissolution as an independent military force."
State television confirmed that Abdi's announcement also included the dissolution of the autonomous administration and its full integration into Syrian state institutions.
Abdi said that the SDF fighters bore a heavy responsibility from its inception during one of Syria's most challenging periods, liberating numerous towns and cities from Baath rule and later from ISIS terror.
Abdi remarked, "Conditions have changed today, and the country has entered a new phase marked by peace and participation in building a new Syria." He noted that the decision to dissolve the SDF stemmed from an agreement with President Al-Shar’a and the completion of integrating their forces into Syrian Army brigades.
