Taiwan's Ministry of Defense revealed that "a Chinese naval formation led by the aircraft carrier Shandong sailed 111 kilometers southeast of Taiwan today, entering the western Pacific for training." It noted that "starting from 5:40 AM, it detected 11 Chinese military aircraft, including J-16 fighter jets, in Taiwan's air defense identification zone, and its forces responded appropriately." The Shandong aircraft carrier, which entered service in 2019, participated in military drills around Taiwan in April and operated in the western Pacific. It also traversed the Taiwan Strait in June.
