Palestinian news agency (Wafa) reported that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas stated that "the policies and actions of Hamas do not represent the Palestinian people." He also described the Palestine Liberation Organization as "the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people" during a phone call with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Later, the Palestinian presidency retracted Abbas's statement in which he said that the policies and actions of Hamas do not represent the Palestinian people.
