A baby was born in a hospital in Rajasthan, northern India, with three arms, in a rare medical phenomenon. The medical team revealed that the child has two arms in their normal positions, along with a third arm that developed from its back. Doctors diagnosed the condition as "polymelia," a congenital anomaly that results in the affected individual having more than the usual number of limbs, which is a rare medical condition reported only a few times in medical literature.
Footage circulated online showed the baby lying on its side, screaming while someone touched its additional limb. The "third arm" was shorter than the other arms, featuring a hand with only three fingers. Images shared on social media indicate that the baby is a newborn, as the umbilical cord was still attached. The baby's name, gender, and whether the birth was natural or cesarean were not disclosed. The doctors also did not specify how the baby might be treated, but in previous cases, the surplus limbs were amputated. A report noted that "the baby is the firstborn of mother Prusuta Suman."
