Bou Habib: We Do Not Know if Hezbollah Agreed to the Shelling or Not

Lebanon's caretaker Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib, in an interview with CNN, discussed the incident of rocket fire from the south, stating that the Lebanese government tried to obtain some information but was unable to determine whether Hezbollah agreed to the shelling. He clarified that the rockets could have been launched from Lebanon by Hamas or "any other Palestinian organization," adding that "the rockets used are of Palestinian manufacture, but they are not very effective."

Bou Habib stated, "We have Palestinian camps in southern Lebanon, and we do not monitor every Palestinian, so they can go somewhere in one of the villages and do what they did yesterday." He emphasized that "we have a very difficult situation in southern Lebanon; Hezbollah is there, they are armed, and the Lebanese army and UNIFIL are also there working with others to stop such things, but they do not always succeed."

He further noted that the Lebanese Foreign Ministry understands there are reasons for this action, but it did not want it to come from Lebanon. He explained that what happened at al-Aqsa is a reason for what occurred in Lebanon, saying, "I do not justify it; I am explaining that what happened at al-Aqsa is very important and there is a real reaction."
