Russia and Bangladesh have agreed to use the yuan to repay a loan for the construction of the "Roopur" nuclear power plant, according to the Economic Relations Division of the Bangladeshi Ministry of Finance. The Bangladeshi newspaper "Business Standard" reported that under the new agreement, Bangladesh will settle payments with Russia through any Chinese bank, and Russian beneficiaries will receive payments using the Chinese Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS), which is an alternative to the SWIFT system for yuan payments. The value of the nuclear power plant is estimated at $12.65 billion, with 90% funded by a Russian loan that will be repaid over 28 years. The "Roopur" plant is being built based on a Russian project and is located on the eastern bank of the Padma River, 160 kilometers from the capital Dhaka.
