Turkey Recovers 1800-Year-Old Historical Artifact from Italy

Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, revealed that "his country has recovered from Italy a tombstone dating back to the second century AD, which was previously smuggled from the ancient city of Zeugma." Ersoy stated in a post on social media yesterday, "The recovery of this historical heritage is a source of joy for Turkey," adding that "the tombstone carries valuable information that is 1800 years old." He emphasized that "Turkey will continue its struggle against the smuggling of historical artifacts abroad." The ancient city of Zeugma, which is over two thousand years old and located on the banks of the Euphrates River in the Nizip region, about 60 kilometers from Gaziantep, attracts local and foreign tourists throughout the year.
