Ethiopian Amani Briso won the women’s marathon at the World Athletics Championships, defeating her compatriot and defending champion Gotytom Gebreslase, on Saturday. Briso, who recorded the third-fastest time ever in Valencia this year, clocked a time of 2 hours, 24.23 minutes. Gebreslase took the silver medal with a time of 2 hours, 24.34 minutes, while Fatima Gardadi of Morocco secured the country's first-ever medal in this event by finishing third with a time of 2 hours, 25.17 minutes.
