Court Decision Invalidates School Directives Requiring Tuition Payments in US Dollars

On Tuesday, Judge Ahmad Mazhar of the urgent matters court in Nabatieh issued a ruling that invalidates school directives requiring parents to pay tuition fees in US dollars. The ruling stated that "after reviewing a request submitted by the guardian of two students at the National Evangelical School in Nabatieh, aiming to suspend the school fees for the upcoming academic year 2023-2024, which were pre-determined in US dollars before the start of the school year, and linking the registration of returning students to the payment of part of the fees in US dollars, and allowing payments in the national currency, under an applicable decision subject to a coercive penalty of not less than one hundred million Lebanese pounds for each day of delay." Judge Mazhar based his decision on Articles 589 and 604 of the Code of Civil Procedure.
