Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai affirmed that "no one in a position of responsibility can obstruct the word of God, and the wrong political practices have led the country to the disintegration of its institutions." He questioned, during his presidency of the annual Mass for "Caritas" in the Jbeil-Bsharri region, at the Patriarchal Church in Diman, "What do the lords obstructing the election of a president of the republic according to the constitution want? They realize that the caretaker government cannot make executive decisions, and they invent a necessity while the only essential necessity is the election of a president of the republic." He emphasized that "you are destroying the republic and scattering power, so fear God and the curse of history." Rai noted that "no one understands why the June electoral session was severed in violation of Article 49 of the constitution, and the real and effective dialogue is the voting in the Parliament to elect a president of the republic."
