Darmanin criticized Benzema in statements made to CNews, referencing the former French international striker's association with the group. This attack by the French minister came after Benzema expressed his support for the people of Gaza amid the escalation between Israel and Hamas.
Benzema wrote on his official X account: "All our prayers for the residents of Gaza, who are once again victims of these unjust bombings that spare neither women nor children."
