The annual public safety report in Brazil revealed nearly 75,000 reported rape cases last year, marking the highest number ever recorded in the country. According to the data, 74,930 rape complaints were filed last year, representing an increase of 8.2 percent compared to 2021, which had 68,885 complaints. Among the victims, 61.4 percent are under the age of 13, with this vulnerable group witnessing the largest increase in cases. Additionally, the number of female homicides in Brazil rose from 1,357 in 2021 to 1,437 in 2022, a 6.1 percent increase. The number of reported cases of domestic violence to law enforcement officers reached 245,713, with an estimated increase of 2.9 percent.
