American attorney of Syrian origin, Nadia Qahf (50 years old), took her oath to become the first Muslim woman to wear a hijab in the position of judge in the Superior Court of Passaic County, New Jersey. According to the local website "North Jersey," Qahf specialized in family and immigration law in Wayne, New Jersey, and served as the head of the Islamic Center in Passaic County. She also worked as a legal advisor at the "Wafa House," a nonprofit organization focused on issues of domestic violence and social services. Since 2003, she has served on the board of the New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an organization dedicated to civil rights advocacy.
