Diplomats have announced that the United Nations Security Council will meet on Friday afternoon to discuss the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement in Gaza. The diplomats indicated that the council has not yet decided whether the meeting will be public. The 15-member council convened in a closed session on Sunday, the day after Hamas invaded Israeli towns and villages, resulting in the deaths of 1,200 people and the taking of dozens of hostages to Gaza.
