Russian Navy Rescues 68 Passengers in the Mediterranean

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced today, Monday, that a warship and two Russian cargo ships rescued 68 people during the night from a boat in the Mediterranean Sea.

In a statement, it was mentioned that the warship "Admiral Gorshkov" was the first to receive a distress call from the yacht "Avalon," which flies Greek and German flags.

The statement added, "The Gorshkov ship and the cargo ship Bizma successfully carried out the rescue operation, medical assistance was provided to the passengers, and they were transferred to Greek coast guard boats off the island of Kalymnos." No details were provided about the passengers or their nationalities.

The "Admiral Gorshkov" is one of the main warships of Russia and has previously been used to test and deploy supersonic missiles. It is unclear what type of weapons it was carrying at the time of the incident.
