At least nine people were killed in a fire that broke out at a golf ball factory in Taiwan, including four firefighters, following an explosion, local authorities announced today. The fire lasted throughout the night, injuring more than a hundred people, mostly workers, according to the Pingtung government in the south of the country. A local government official told Agence France-Presse that "one person is still missing today as further tests are needed to identify remains found at the scene." Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen visited the site and expressed her condolences to the victims' families, calling for an investigation. A firefighting official in Pingtung told local media, "The peroxide stored in the factory may have caused a large explosion followed by smaller explosions."
