Political communications have not ceased in recent days to reach an agreement. The Lebanese Forces Party, the Progressive Socialist Party, and other forces, along with independents, insist on nominating MP Michel Moawad for the presidency, while Hezbollah, the Amal Movement, and other forces are pushing for the nomination of the President of the Marada Movement, Suleiman Franjieh. Others believe there is a chance to choose a third candidate who could be agreed upon by most factions, including Lebanese Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, whose election would require a constitutional amendment since the constitution prohibits the election of a first-category employee.
After information leaked about a meeting between the head of the Coordination and Liaison Unit in Hezbollah, Wafiq Safa, and General Joseph Aoun in recent days, sources close to the meeting denied that the talks addressed the presidential file. The sources characterized the meeting as part of "periodic encounters," stating in remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat that the meeting dealt with coordination-related files on the ground. They added that this was "not the first meeting between Safa and General Aoun, as these meetings usually occur for coordination purposes and did not address the presidential file at all."
