Manchester City manager, Spanish coach Pep Guardiola, will be absent from his team's next two matches after undergoing emergency back surgery on Tuesday, as announced by the English club. Manchester City stated in a release that "the manager, who led his team to win the treble last season (the league, the domestic cup, and the Champions League), had been suffering from severe back pain for some time and traveled to Barcelona for a routine emergency operation." They added: "Pep Guardiola underwent a routine surgical procedure today (Tuesday) to address a back issue. Everyone at Manchester City wishes Pep a speedy recovery and looks forward to seeing him back in Manchester soon." The Spanish coach will remain in Barcelona during his recovery from the surgery and is expected to miss Manchester City's matches against Sheffield United on Sunday and Fulham on September 2, with his assistant Juanma Lillo temporarily in charge of the team.
