Trump Nominates Lindsey Graham's Sister for U.S. Senate Seat

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has asked Darlene Graham, sister of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, to run for the U.S. Senate in the Republican primary special elections in South Carolina, scheduled for August 11.

Trump wrote in a post on the Truth Social platform: "I hope Darlene takes that step; there would be no one better to honor her beloved brother Lindsey's legacy," indicating that she would have his endorsement.

Lindsey Graham's office announced last weekend that the senator passed away late Saturday due to heart disease caused by atherosclerosis. Lindsey was once a fierce critic of Trump before becoming one of his strongest allies.

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, a Republican, appointed the late senator's sister on Monday to fill his vacant Senate seat until the first week of January.

Memorial services for the late U.S. senator will be held on July 28 in Washington and on July 29 in South Carolina.
