Philippines Removes Barriers in South China Sea

The Philippine Coast Guard reported today, Monday, that it has successfully removed a floating barrier deemed "hazardous" that was placed by China in a disputed maritime area in the South China Sea. They added that the removal of the barrier was ordered by the president and the special task force. The Philippines accused China on Sunday of placing floating barriers in Scarborough Shoal and stated that it would work to protect the rights of its fishermen. China seized Scarborough Shoal in 2012, forcing Filipino fishermen to travel longer distances for smaller catches.
