Two defendants in the case involving former U.S. President Donald Trump, accused of attempting to tamper with the election results in Georgia in 2020, surrendered themselves to state authorities on Tuesday, according to the Department of Corrections and reported by the Washington Post.
John Eastman, a constitutional law expert, faces 9 charges, while Scott Hall faces 7 charges. Both surrendered as inmates at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, the state capital. They had previously arranged with authorities to post bail, allowing them to avoid pretrial detention, provided they do not violate any laws, refrain from threats, and do not communicate with each other or witnesses except through their attorneys.
Trump and the 18 other defendants have until Friday at noon (16:00 GMT) to report to the Fulton County Courthouse. On Monday evening, Trump indicated that he would surrender to the county authorities on Thursday.
The Georgia judiciary has charged Trump and 18 others with "extortion" and various crimes in an effort to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in this key state, which was won by current Democratic President Joe Biden.
