Defender of Racing Abidjan, Mustafa Sylla, passed away after suffering a health crisis during a match that his team was playing in the Ivory Coast's first division league. The club expressed its condolences to the player’s family in a statement saying, "Our defender Mustafa Sylla (...) died as a result of a health issue he experienced on the field during the match between Racing Abidjan and SOL FC." Sylla Moustapha, 21 years old, was confirmed to have died on Sunday during a Ligue 1 match against SOL FC. The former player of Djoliba AC in Mali collapsed in the middle of the game (see video). The club's president, Logosina Sissay, stated that "Mustafa died while being transported to the hospital; he joined the club last September and was 21 years old." Racing Abidjan, which has been in the top division since the 2018-2019 season, was crowned champion in 2020, and is currently in seventh place this season.
