On Wednesday, Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea received the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Ambassador Joanna Froncyska, at his office in Maarab, prior to her departure to New York to present her annual report on Resolution 1701 to the UN Security Council. Geagea addressed the stalled presidential file, explaining to Froncyska that "the only solution lies in electing a new president for Lebanon, capable of reshaping the authority, thereby embarking on reforms and addressing all outstanding issues." He also informed her about "the obstructionist team's insistence on dialogue as they propose it, aimed at diverting attention and wasting the opportunity before the Lebanese people." Geagea emphasized "the necessity for this team to halt its policy of obstruction and head to the parliamentary council, not to leave until the long-awaited new president is elected." The meeting, attended by former Minister of Foreign Relations Richard Kouyoumjian and Mark Saad, was an occasion for Geagea to call on the UN Secretary-General and UNIFIL leadership through Froncyska to issue a clear and decisive resolution regarding the contentious southern border issue, considering that "they are the only entity capable of resolving this matter and clarifying the truth to the Lebanese public."
