Media reports have revealed that "the administration of Al Ahli Saudi Club has made an attractive offer to sign one of the stars of Liverpool FC this summer." Noted sports journalist Nicolo Schira confirmed via his Twitter account that "Al Ahli is close to signing Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino, whose contract with Liverpool ends on June 30." He explained that "Al Ahli has made an enticing offer to acquire Firmino, which includes a contract extending until 2026 and an annual salary estimated at €20 million."
Firmino, nicknamed "the magician of Liverpool," has also been linked with other clubs, notably Real Madrid, which is searching for a replacement for its recently transferred French striker Karim Benzema, now at Al Ittihad. The 31-year-old Brazilian forward contributed under coach Jurgen Klopp in leading Liverpool to Premier League glory in the 2019-2020 season, the UEFA Champions League title in 2018-2019, and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2019. During the past season, Firmino had to compete for a place in the lineup against a new group of Liverpool forwards, including Dutch player Cody Gakpo and Uruguayan Darwin Núñez.
