Lebanese Forces leader Samy Jumblatt directed a written question to the Lebanese government regarding the fate of Lebanese individuals who are missing and detained in Syria, following the United Nations General Assembly's decision to establish an independent international body to reveal the fate of all missing, detained, and abducted persons in Syria and their locations. Jumblatt condemned Lebanon's stance of abstaining from voting on this UN resolution, which he claimed disregards all previous official Lebanese decisions related to the file of Lebanese detainees and missing persons in Syrian jails. He also inquired about "the practical measures the Lebanese government and relevant ministries will take to ensure the inclusion of missing Lebanese persons in Syria since 2011, as well as Lebanese individuals abducted by Syrian forces and their allies before 2011, before the expiration of the eighty-day deadline stipulated in the General Assembly's resolution."
Additionally, he asked, "What about the measures the Lebanese government will take to ensure the representation of the families of Lebanese victims and missing persons in Syria during the establishment of the body and during its work, as well as the practical steps the Lebanese government and relevant ministries will undertake to empower the National Commission for Missing and Forcibly Disappeared Persons to fulfill its role?" Jumblatt demanded that the government respond to the questions within 15 days, warning that failure to do so would result in the question being turned into an inquiry, as stipulated by law.
