Deputy Ghassan Hassabani, on behalf of the "Strong Republic" bloc, indicated that "the opposition is approaching the government in an effort to provide any means to extend the retirement of the army commander for one year." He noted in an interview with the newspaper "Nidaa Al-Watan" that "if this matter occurs in the Council of Ministers quickly, so be it; however, if it requires legislation in the Parliament, the opposition will not be an obstacle to that." He clarified that "the bloc has previously submitted a draft law," emphasizing that "we accepted the legislation for this purpose due to the exceptional situation Lebanon is experiencing, which threatens national security."
