Title: French Police Clash with Climate Activists

French riot police used tear gas and pepper spray to disperse numerous climate activists attempting to prevent shareholders from accessing the headquarters of TotalEnergies for the annual general meeting on Friday. Police escorted shareholders through the ranks of protesters, asking them to leave their bags at the door and turn off their phones for the duration of the meeting. Climate advocates are intensifying their demands on oil companies to set stricter targets for greenhouse gas emissions. Earlier this week, protesters attempted to breach the meeting location of Shell's shareholders, and last month they tried to disrupt the general meeting of BP. Shareholders are set to vote on a resolution urging the acceleration of the greenhouse gas emissions reduction program of the major French oil company. The board of TotalEnergies opposes the resolution, instead encouraging investors to approve its own plan.
