The Japanese Nikkei index jumped 2% on Wednesday after a series of losses that lasted for four sessions, driven by gains in technology stocks. The Nikkei started the afternoon trading session strongly, surpassing the 33,000-point level, before bolstering its gains with a final push at the close, ending the session up 2.02% at 33,193.99 points.
Overall, 219 stocks rose, while 6 stocks declined out of the 225 listed on the Nikkei index. Technology sector stocks increased by 2.6%, making it the best-performing segment on the Nikkei. The broader Topix index also climbed by 1.99%.
On the other hand, the shipping companies' stock index fell by 1.67% after having surged more than 7% in the previous two sessions.
