American businessman Elon Musk tweeted yesterday, Wednesday, that Russians make up the majority in several eastern regions of Ukraine and prefer to live with Russia. In response to Senator Lindsey Graham, who criticized his peace plan, Musk stated, "If we assume that the will of the people is important, we should support the will of those living there in any area of conflict. It is clear that a large part of Ukraine's population wishes to remain within Ukraine, but in some eastern areas, the majority of the population is Russian and prefers Russia." Musk attached a map showing that the eastern regions voted in favor of the pro-Russian "Party of Regions" in the 2012 Ukrainian parliamentary elections.
It is noted that the mentioned senator advised Musk to "understand the realities of the Russian invasion of Ukraine" before proposing solutions to the conflict there. Earlier, Musk expressed doubts about Ukraine's ability to win in the event of a full-scale war with Russia and called for peace between the parties. He also presented his vision for resolving the conflict in Ukraine, urging for a repeat of "voting in annexed areas under the supervision of the United Nations, keeping Crimea as an official part of Russia, as it has been since 1783 (before Khrushchev’s mistake)," and ensuring the provision of water to Crimea and a neutral status for Ukraine.
