US Advises Citizens Not to Travel to Iraq

The U.S. Department of State advised its citizens today, Sunday, "not to travel to Iraq following recent attacks against American forces and individuals in the region." The travel warning states, "Do not travel to Iraq due to kidnapping, armed conflict, civil unrest, and limited capacity of the mission in Iraq to provide support to American citizens." The department noted in a statement that "the travel warning follows an order for the departure of family members and non-emergency government employees from the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and the Consulate General in Erbil due to increasing security threats against American personnel and interests."
