UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated today, Wednesday, that "climate collapse has begun," noting that "scientists have long warned about the consequences of our reliance on fossil fuels." In a statement responding to the Copernicus Observatory's announcement that the summer in the Northern Hemisphere was the hottest on record, Guterres said: "The climate is exploding faster than our ability to cope, with extreme weather events hitting every corner of the globe."
