Will Foreign Intervention Enforce a Solution?

Will Foreign Intervention Enforce a Solution?

It is evident from the developments in Lebanon that there is an external will from both brothers and friends to maintain stability in the country. This is reflected in the positions and statements from diplomatic missions, which indicate renewed and close engagement from the French towards Beirut, in harmony with an American push emphasizing the completion of the presidential electoral process, as stated by Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the members of the Lebanon Support Group.

According to information, the stability of Lebanon has become a priority following the maritime achievement exemplified by the demarcation agreement, which was primarily imposed on the concerned parties to establish stability on both sides of this agreement. Consequently, Washington will exert its weight to prevent anything that may jeopardize this stability, focusing on the Lebanese side by extending support to complete its obligations, foremost of which is the election of a president, as a politically secure and stable Lebanon means that the demarcation is secure and American interests are maintained.

MP Adnan Trabulsi states to "Al-Markaziya": "There is no doubt that the horizon for solutions to the existing crises is closed. The only glimmer of hope that the invitation of Speaker of the House Nabih Berri for dialogue to elect a new president represented has been lost after encountering rejection from some parties. This indicates that all aims to unite around filling the vacancy have been lost, and the failure to form a new government further complicates and endangers the situation."

He continues: "In light of the local deadlock, we have no choice but to rely on the will of our supportive brothers and friends from abroad to provide assistance by pressuring local forces to elect a president for the country and subsequently form a new rescue government that begins implementing the reforms required by the Arab and international communities to extend a helping hand to Lebanon and set it on the path to recovery and revival." He concludes: "We can only pray to God that the situation in the country remains as stable as it is, especially since the living conditions for citizens have become very difficult, and their continuation without remedy poses dangerous ramifications that could threaten public peace in the country."
