U.S. stocks closed higher on Thursday as shares linked to the technology sector bolstered gains, while regional bank stocks fell after President Joe Biden's administration proposed stricter measures to help mitigate risks. The technology sector index provided the biggest support to the S&P 500 index, and the semiconductor sector index also rose, continuing strong gains from Wednesday. According to preliminary data, the S&P 500 increased by 22.59 points or 0.56% to close at 4050.40 points, while the Nasdaq Composite rose by 87.39 points or 0.73% to 12013.62 points. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 142.29 points or 0.43% to close at 32859.89 points.
