Al-Najma inflicted its first defeat on Al-Ansar, winning 3-2 in a match held this Sunday afternoon at the Fouad Chehab Sports Complex in Jounieh, during the fourth round of the second phase of the Lebanese 63rd general football league. Al-Ansar's goals were scored by Senegalese player Hajj Malik (2), while Al-Najma's were netted by Khalil Badr and Brazilians Gervinho and Matheus.
With this result, Al-Ansar dropped to second place, one point behind the defending champion Al-Ahed. The competition is now focused between Al-Ansar, the record holder with 14 championship wins, and Al-Ahed, which is seeking a ninth title to break its shared record with Al-Najma.
Al-Ahed and Al-Ansar will meet in the final fifth round next week in a "title match," with a draw or win favoring Al-Ahed, while only a win is acceptable for Al-Ansar. In another match held at the Amin Abdul Nour Municipal Stadium in Bhamdoun, Al-Burj defeated their guests, Al-Shabab Al-Ghazieh, 3-2, with goals from Hussein Al-Aouta, Mohammad Hamoud, and Richards, while Al-Shabab Al-Ghazieh's goals were scored by Imad Ghadar and Shadi Jouni.
