Sisi Addresses the Nation on the Anniversary of July 23 Revolution

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi addressed the Egyptian people on the anniversary of the July 23 Revolution, paying tribute to Presidents Gamal Abdel Nasser, Mohamed Naguib, and Anwar Sadat. Sisi stated, "July 23 is an occasion that reminds us of the struggle of generations of our people who aspired to rid themselves of colonialism and foreign domination." He extended "a salute of pride to President Gamal Abdel Nasser, and President Mohamed Naguib who took on responsibility at a critical moment in the nation's history, as well as to President Sadat who fulfilled his duty in war and peace, paying a high price for the dignity and future of Egypt." It is noteworthy that the July 23 Revolution was a military movement against the monarchy led by Egyptian army officers in the "Free Officers Movement" on July 23, 1952. This movement resulted in the abolition of the monarchy and the transformation of Egypt into a presidential republic.
