Two people were killed and 19 others were injured today, Monday, in a Russian drone attack in the city of Sumy, northern Ukraine, prompting President Volodymyr Zelensky to call for an update to air defense systems. The local administration in Sumy reported that three buildings, one official and two residential, were damaged in the attack involving four drones. An air raid alert was declared again in the Sumy region a few hours after the morning strike. Earlier, the Ukrainian military announced the downing of 13 out of 17 Iranian-made Shahed drones launched by Moscow during a separate overnight attack. Russia, which launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has intensified its airstrikes on Ukraine in recent weeks. Ukraine is conducting a counteroffensive to try to reclaim occupied territories.
