British Investigations into the Port Case Are Nearing Results

Protests have returned to Beirut and its surrounding areas, centered around the port explosion, which has generated numerous issues beginning with the families of the victims protesting against the appointment of a deputy judge to Judge Tarek Bitar. The unrest has continued following the detention of activist William Noun by the State Security apparatus. The investigation into the Beirut port explosion is expected to escalate in the coming days, not only due to local developments but also in light of reports about a French judicial delegation visiting Beirut shortly to follow up on investigations concerning the explosion, which resulted in the deaths of two French nationals.

In this context, information according to the Kuwaiti newspaper "Al-Jarida" indicates that “the British judiciary will soon issue its investigative results regarding the ship Rhosus and its owners, as well as those responsible for its cargo of ammonium nitrate, which was the primary cause of the port explosion. This means that the port investigation has become international, alongside investigations into financial, banking, and economic matters related to the ongoing economic crisis. This is particularly relevant as the country is expecting visits from judicial delegations from France and Luxembourg in the coming days to investigate based on financial lawsuits filed in these countries against the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Riad Salameh, following the completion of investigations by a German judicial delegation.”

Political sources state that “Abdollahian's remarks about non-intervention in Lebanese affairs implicitly mean that Tehran has fully entrusted the file of the anticipated political settlement to Hezbollah, and his statements about Tehran's readiness to resume dialogue with Saudi Arabia reflect an Iranian willingness to engage in regional understandings that could positively impact Lebanon.”
