On Wednesday, protesters from the city of Suwayda entered the Ba'ath Party branch building after the employees' working hours in an attempt to close it down for the second time while chanting slogans calling for freedom. This prompted the building's guards to open fire heavily on the protesters to disperse them. Following this, large groups of protesters accompanied by religious leaders headed to the party branch building amidst growing discontent and anger from the demonstrators.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights noted that the popular protests continued for the fourth consecutive week in Suwayda, with dozens of residents gathering in the Al-Seyer/Karama Square, reaffirming their legitimate demands for political transition, the resignation of Assad from power, the implementation of UN Resolution 2254, the release of detainees, and the establishment of a democratic national entity.
