America Threatens to Cut Military Aid to Egypt

Senator Ben Cardin, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, warned on Saturday that he would withhold military aid to Egypt if the country does not take "concrete, effective, and sustainable steps" to improve human rights. Senator Cardin issued this threat in a statement, emphasizing the need to continue holding the Egyptian government and all governments accountable for human rights violations. This announcement came a day after Gregory Meeks, a senior Democratic member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, stated that he had requested the State Department to suspend part of U.S. military funding to Egypt linked to human rights standards.
