Shukri Ersoy, a member of the scientific committee at "AFAD" and dean of the Faculty of Construction at Yıldız Technical University, has identified the 9 most dangerous areas in the event of a potential earthquake in Istanbul. Ersoy stated, "The anticipated earthquake will exceed 7 degrees and will definitely occur on the North Anatolian fault line that runs through the Sea of Marmara." He added that "the dangerous areas are Fatih, Zeytinburnu, Bağcılar, Güngören, Esenler, Küçükçekmece, Büyükçekmece, Avcılar, and Silivri, while the safest neighborhoods are Şişli, Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Eyüpsultan, Sarıyer, and Başakşehir." He continued, "The earthquake could happen now or in 30 years, but it will happen eventually and the waiting period may not be very long."
