German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht announced during her visit to Lebanon and her inspection of her country's forces serving in the maritime "UNIFIL" mission that support would be provided to the Lebanese army and its naval forces in the areas of maritime surveillance and training. She emphasized that "it is important for us to help the Lebanese Navy transition to a stage where it can ensure its own security."
She continued: "This is very important for us, and we are committed to Germany's support initiatives through UNIFIL and on a bilateral basis between the two countries, such as enhancing the coastal radar system by providing specialized radar equipment and training on its operation. This is equally important as securing patrol boats, for instance. These steps will enable the army to develop its security capabilities."
