Martin Griffith, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, announced today that there are optimistic signs regarding the possibility of opening the Kerem Shalom crossing in Israel soon to allow more humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. Griffith mentioned in a statement to reporters in Geneva that "we are still negotiating amid some indicators that give us reasons for optimism at this time."
