Japanese broadcaster NHK reported on Wednesday that at least 360 flights in Japan were canceled due to Typhoon "Khanon," located east of Kyushu Island in the southern part of the country. The typhoon also led to the suspension of shinkansen (bullet train) services and ferries. Kyushu Electric Power stated that over 9,000 homes in Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures lost electricity due to fallen power lines. Authorities indicated that "Khanon" may reach the coastal city of Tongyeong in southeastern South Korea by Thursday before continuing towards the Korean Peninsula. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida canceled his participation in a ceremony to commemorate the atomic bombing of Nagasaki in Kyushu. The ongoing typhoon, which has persisted for more than a week in southern Japan, brought heavy rainfall to the Okinawa Islands and Kyushu.
