Ethiopian Army Drives Out Local

A member of the "Fano" militia indicated today, Wednesday, that "the Ethiopian army has expelled elements of the local militia from most areas of Gondar in Amhara, which has witnessed intense fighting since clashes erupted across the Amhara region last week." In a statement to Reuters, the member, who wished to remain anonymous for security reasons, said: "The national defense forces, supported by riot police and government-aligned militias, expelled Fano fighters from the city on Tuesday." He added: "It was violent fighting. The national defense forces used tanks. Our fighters were only using Kalashnikov rifles." For his part, a local official in Gondar clarified that the army "almost completely controls the city."
