The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that it has detected the "EG 5" variant, warning that it is "rapidly spreading," although confirming that the health situation in the country remains stable. In a statement, the ministry indicated that the emergence of such variants is expected and does not warrant concern, as mutations are a fundamental characteristic of viruses. The statement noted that the "EG 5" variant is one of the sub-lineages of the "Omicron" variant of the coronavirus, which has currently been reported in about 50 countries worldwide. It added: "There is no evidence that the new variant is more dangerous than other variants that have previously been identified, but its rapid spread has been observed in some regions around the world."
