An American won the jackpot in the Powerball draw in California, which amounts to one billion dollars, according to the lottery officials announced last night. According to the "Washington Post," the California lottery agency stated on Twitter: "California now has a new billionaire in Powerball," noting that this prize had been pending for a long time due to the difficulty in matching the numbers.
The agency indicated that the ticket sold at a store in Los Angeles "was the only one in the entire country that matched the six numbers in the draw," pointing out that the winner can choose to receive one and a half million dollars in cash as a lump sum, or opt for 1.8 million dollars paid out in annual installments increasing by five percent each year for 30 years.
