Algeria has withdrawn the film "Barbie" from local cinemas, citing its incompatibility with "morality," after the film had been showing for several weeks in Algerian theaters, according to local media sources. The news site "24H Algerie," quoting "informed sources," reported that the film was pulled from the country's cinemas for allegedly violating "morality."
Cinema operators adjusted their screening schedules on Sunday, removing the film directed by Greta Gerwig without providing an explanation for this decision. The company responsible for distributing "Barbie" in Algeria also announced the cancellation of the film's screening, which had been released on July 19 in Algerian theaters, without elaborating on the details. Nearly 48 hours after the film's removal from theaters, the Algerian Ministry of Culture, which typically announces film bans along with reasons, has remained silent on the matter.
